Violinist Ju-Young Baek has performed at world-renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. She has also performed with the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, she has participated in prestigious festivals including Marlboro, Ravinia, Aspen, and Salzburg. She has previously served as the leader of the Sejong Soloists and the Opus Ensemble.
A prize winner at numerous prestigious competitions, Ms. Baek is a laureate of the Indianapolis, Paganini, Sibelius, Long-Thibaud, and Queen Elisabeth International Competitions. Her international career was launched after winning first prize at the Young Concert Artists (YCA) Auditions in New York City and the Astral Artists National Auditions in Philadelphia.
Ms. Baek released her debut album of Brahms and Bruch concerti in Japan to critical acclaim, followed by another solo violin repertoire album. Her recording of Penderecki and Szymanowski violin concerti with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra also received rave reviews in London. In 2020, marking the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth, she became the first Korean violinist to record and release the complete set of Beethoven violin sonatas. She followed this achievement with a recording of the complete sonatas for solo violin by Ysaÿe in 2022.
Ms. Baek joined the faculty at the College of Music, Seoul National University in 2005, making history as the youngest professor ever appointed to the institution. Her recent engagements include appearances at the Taiwan Music Academy & Festival, the Ishikawa Music Festival, and the Montreal International Music Competition. Since 2024, she has been a designated Larsen Strings Artist, receiving official support from the world-renowned Danish string manufacturer.
