PROFILE

Korean Soprano Michelle JuYoung Hong is one of the leading emerging sopranos of Asia today.  She graduated from Chugye University of the Arts, Korea National University of Arts, Conservatorio di Musica di Brescia, and Conservatorio di Milano. Most notable international prizes include: second prize winner of Francesco Vinas International Vocal Competition (Spain), third prize winner of Giuseppe Verdi International Competition (Italy). And she was a laureate of Renata Tebaldi International Competition and Gian Battista Viotti International Competition.
 
Ms. Hong has performed many important roles. Most notably, she has sung the role of Mimi in La boheme under the baton of Maestro Myung-Whun Chung with Korea National Opera and Seoul Philharmonic, Mimi in La boheme at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Tatyana(cover) in Eugene Onegin with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Mimi in La boheme at Daejeon Arts Center, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte with Daegu Opera Festival, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and Leïla in Les pêcheurs de perles with Korea National Opera, and Violetta in La Traviata at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. She also made a role debut as Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro with Seoul Philharmonic under the baton of Shao-Chia Lu. She performed again Mimi in La boheme in Birgitta Festival in Tallinn, Estonia. She also sang Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus at Arts Center Incheon.

She has sung in concerts with Seoul Philharmonic, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean National Symphony Orchestra, Daegu Symphony Orchestra and so on. She made a debut with Macao Orchestra in their Easter Concert. She sang Beethoven Symphony No.9 in the joint concert with Seoul Philharmonic and Tokyo Philharmonic under the baton of Myung-Whun Chung. She also sang Verdi’s Requiem with the National Chorus of Korea.

Since March 2022, she has been a professor at Chugye University of the Arts.
